Seed Dials

Information on the seed dial and seed sower was taken

Seed sowers (dials) enable folks with

poor finger dexterity, vision, or fine

motor control to evenly plant seeds.

Once the dial is set to seed size, the

sower is shaken over the planting

area. These devices are available

through many garden stores for

around $4 to $7.

Yankee Hint: This seed sower

is made from a funnel that has

been duct-taped to a 1/2” PVC pipe.

A string attached to the funnel is

put around the person’s neck to

support the sower and leaves hands

free to shake seeds into the funnel.

This device is used by people who

have trouble bending or who must

garden from a wheelchair. (Cost:

less than $5.)
